The origins of Alassio – and especially its name – go back to an old legend:
Princess Adelasia, daughter of Emperor Otto, fled the imperial court together with the courageous Aleramo to escape her father's disapproval.

Like every good story, there is a happy ending:
Thanks to Aleramo's courage and the mediation of the Bishop of Albenga, the couple reconciled with the emperor, who gave Aleramo as much land as he could cross on horseback in three days.

The name Alassio is said to derive from the name Adelasia
